About
Three generations of the same discipline: take a raw web of fibre and turn it into a component with a job to do. The address changed once. The trade has not.
The mark on the roll
The grade, the width and the order are written on the roll head in grease pencil. Seventy five years later the same information travels with the job, and it still has to be right before anything is coated, laminated or cut.
History
David H. Greene and his two sons in law, David T. Stuck and Blaine A. Rabbers, founded Fibre Converters in 1949 in Three Rivers, Michigan. Greene arrived with a career in the paper industry behind him, across Wisconsin, Illinois, Louisiana and Michigan.
| 1949 | Founded in Three Rivers, Michigan. The original products were laminated kraft board for grease proof folding cartons, and interior poster board. |
|---|---|
| 1953 | Developed a non staining and flame resistant alternative to paperboard saturated with asphalt, for automotive interior trim components including door panels, package trays and sun visors. |
| With polyethylene | It became possible to offer a clean and cost effective moisture barrier as a poly coated board concealed just below the surface. The Valdor line of barrier and coated products that followed became the industry standard for interior trim, and the springboard into every other poly coated market. |
| 1993 | Having outgrown the original site and a run of expansions, the company moved to new facilities in Constantine, where a state of the art solid fiber laminator was installed. |
| After the move | Ongoing improvements to the laminating line, including two colour flexographic printing, and added off line die cutting capacity. |
| 2008 | An extrusion coating and laminating line was installed, increasing vertical integration and opening additional direct sales. |
| Today | Product ships throughout the United States and is exported internationally for a wide variety of applications. |

Leadership
A company this size does not route a technical question through four departments. New product development sits with the person who owns sales.

Mission
Transform raw goods into final products. Waste into sustainability. Problems into innovative solutions. A workplace into a work family. Community needs into a better tomorrow.
How we treat people
We collaborate with safety, honor and compassion, striving to develop and see the best in each other. We lead by example, exemplifying the Christian value of treating others the way we would like to be treated, and building strong relationships with customers, suppliers and team members.
How we improve
We commit to continuous improvement and use emerging technology to create sustainable solutions and minimise waste. By anticipating customer needs and preventing problems, we ensure excellence.
How we serve
We exceed customer expectations with prompt service and quality products. Investing in our communities encourages team member participation and leaves a positive and lasting impact.
How we last
We build excellence by preventing problems, committing to continuous improvement, and maintaining strong, loyal relationships with customers, suppliers and team members.
Sustainability is not a recent position
We limit waste in the die cutting process and recycle wood flour and plastic resin to extrude composite sheets used for new products. Virtually all internal waste returns to the recycled materials stream. That has been the business model since 1949.
Working together
Bring the constraint you are stuck on. If paperboard is the wrong answer we will say so early, which costs you a phone call rather than a tooling run.
